Central Elementary will have a short Veterans Day assembly on Friday morning at 9:30 in the main gym. The program will be centered for students, but community members are welcome to attend and sit in the north bleachers. We appreciate our veterans!

Notice is hereby given pursuant to K.S.A. 72-3126, of a public hearing to be held on the 13th day of November, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Columbus Board of Education Office (802 South High School Avenue, Columbus, Kansas) regarding the Unified School District No. 493, Cherokee County, Kansas proposed policy to determine the number of nonresident students that the school district has the capacity to accept in each grade level for each school of the school district pursuant to K.S.A. 72-3123, and amendments thereto, including clearly specifying the reasons that the board may use to deny continued enrollment of a nonresident student who is not in good standing.
A representative of the board shall present the board’s proposal for the policy, and the board shall hear testimony regarding the proposed policy.
[NOTE: This notice must be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the school district once a week for two consecutive weeks on the same day of each week and shall be posted on the school district’s website. K.S.A. 72-3126]

If consent is not given by October 23rd, we will have to disable your student’s Google account until we obtain consent to continue using it. Many schools (including vo-tech and state schools like PSU) use the FAFSA and online applications to award multiple lesser-known scholarships, many of which do not require a low income or high GPA and ACT scores to qualify. In fact, researchers claim that *a regular high school student may have the qualifications for as many as 50 to 100 scholarships," and one secret to earning more scholarship money is "getting your application materials ready for on-the-spot submission."
I am Janie Jarrett, a lifelong Columbus girl and CUHS, PSU & Mizzou graduate. My administrative background, where I read hundreds of applications for employment, coupled with my expertise in writing, and my own success in navigating college funding sources, qualifies me to coach seniors toward creating more competitive applications. In eight years of college, I was able to secure scholarship money that paid my tuition and provided an additional living stipend. In the upcoming workshop, I will help students create a toolbox with which to present themselves in the best possible light in the application process.

Today was such a fun day. I got to visit the littles at Park school this morning at 7:15 for breakfast. They have so much energy early in the morning.
Then I had lunch at Highland and enjoyed visiting with some really cool kids.
