8th Grade Remains Undefeated
Columbus 22 Galena 20
The eighth grade football team played an outstanding game last night to move to 4-0 on the season. Both teams were undefeated on the year and Columbus was able to win a close game 22 to 20. On the opening drive of the game, Tyler Elmore ran for a 60 yard touchdown run. On Galena’s opening drive they also ran for a touchdown to lead the game 8 to 6.
In the second quarter Galena once again ran for a touchdown to lead the game 14-6. Also in the second quarter Tyler Elmore ran a punt return 65 yards for a touchdown, but an illegal block nullified the touchdown scored by the Titans.
In the beginning of the third quarter Galena was once again able to score to go up 20 to 6. On the Titans first drive in the third quarter Travis Jones ran 80 yards to make the score 20 to 14.
In the fourth quarter Galena was once again driving the ball down the field, but the Titans were able to come up with a big defensive stand by forcing a fumble on their own 20 yard line. With six minutes left in the game the Titans drove the length of the field and scored the games winning touchdown with only one minute left on the clock. The games final score and conversion were both ran in by Tyler Elmore. This score held and the Titans won the game 22 to 20.
This game was a big win for the eighth grade. At one point in the third quarter we were down 20 to 6. Our kids never gave up and kept battling the tough Galena team all the way to the end. Sometimes when kids don’t give up, and continue to play hard, good things happen. Our offense and defense both played an outstanding game in beating a very tough Galena team. The coaches were very pleased with the effort of the eighth grade. They battled hard, never gave up, and pulled out a big victory against a tough undefeated Galena football team. Our next game is at home against Parsons on Thursday night.

The 7th grade suffered it’s first loss of the season in losing to Galena 30 to 0. Galena led the game 24 to 0 at half, and beat the Titans 30 to 0 at the end of the game. The 7th graders had a tough game, but all the coaches were proud of the fact that all of our kids played hard and never gave up. Our next game is at home against Parsons on Thursday night.
