Independent Reading
Grade Progression Scale

Independent Reading is an in-progress grade.  The student starts with a zero and as the student finishes independent reading units the grade improves.  This also means the grade will never go down.  Below is a table to help you know if your student is progressing satisfactorily.

First Progress Report (six weeks):

If the student wants a ________ the student should have ________
IR units at this time.
D 1 (25%)
C 2 (55%)
B 2 or 3 (55%-60%)
A 3 or more (60% or more)

Second Progress Report (twelve weeks):

If the student wants a ________ , the student should have ________
IR units at this time.
D 2 (55%)
C 4 (65%)
B 5 or 6 (70%-75%)
A 6 or more (75% or more)
