THE MORNING SUN

CHANUTE — Corbin Stanley ran for two touchdowns, then passed for three more as the unbeaten Columbus High School Titans races past the Chanute Blue Comets 38-7 in a Southeast Kansas League football game Friday night.

The Titans, 3-0, used the ground attack to take control, then turned to the air to put it away, scoring the first 38 points and leading 32-0 at the end of three quarters.

Stanley scored on TD runs of 38 and 18 yards in the first quarter and Justin Pillar added a conversion run to make it 14-0.

Stanley lobbed a 28-yard scoring pass to Travis Saporito in the second quarter to extend the lead to 20-0, then threw third-quarter TD passes of 10 yards to Bill Green and 42 to Pillar.

Lewis Kellogg scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Chanute averted the shutout late in the game on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Holig to Devon Crabtree.

The Titans finished with 461 yards of offense while limiting Chanute to 116. The biggest difference was the running game. The Titans ground out 258 yards rushing — 151 in the first quarter alone — while Chanute finished with 2 net yards rushing.

"We wanted to come out and make a statement," Columbus coach Sean Price said of the first-quarter ground assault.
