COLUMBUS — Corbin Stanley accounted for four touchdowns and nearly 300 yards of offense Friday night, guiding the Columbus High School Titans to a 46-21 victory over the Iola Mustangs in the season-opening game for the two Southeast Kansas League football teams.
Stanley, a senior, passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, connecting on 15 of 21 attempts without an interception. He also had 49 yards rushing on seven carries.
Stanley connected on TD passes of 36 and 25 yards to Tyler Fleming and 52 to Matt Crain. He also scored on a 19-yard run.
Justin Pillar had an 11-yard touchdown run, Lewis Kellogg provided points on a 12-yard run and a safety. Bill Green added a touchdown on a 35-yard interception return.
Pillar had eight catches for 105 yards, Fleming caught three for 70 yards and two touchdowns and Crain had two catches for 55 yards for the Titans.
"I never felt good," said Columbus coach Sean Price, whose team scored the first 46 points, led 40-0 at halftime and put in reserves in the second half as the Mustangs managed three late touchdowns. "To be honest with you, it was sloppy. We didn't really play that well."
Defensively, though, the Titan starters did play well. Iola managed just one first down against the varsity unit.
"Defensively,we played realwell. I'm pretty proud of the defense," Price said.
